Use this list with your lawyer and accountant before your first pay-later order. It takes most shops a few days.

1. Legal opinion

A written view from a lawyer in your first target country that your option fits the CCD2 exclusion as implemented there.

2. SME status

Confirm whether you're an SME. If not, your limit is 14 days and stricter conditions apply.

3. Creditor identifier

Obtain your SEPA creditor ID — from the Deutsche Bundesbank in Germany, or through your bank elsewhere.

4. GoCardless account

Open and verify your GoCardless account, then connect it to Kalplex.

5. Checkout terms

Add pay-later terms: debit date, pre-notification period, no interest or fees.

6. Privacy notice

Update your privacy notice for mandate data and risk checks.

7. Risk rules

Decide who sees pay later at launch — start conservative.

8. Dunning steps

Agree your reminder steps and what happens after the final notice, with no extra fees beyond what national law allows.

This is general information, not legal advice

CCD2 is a directive: each EU country writes its own law to implement it, and details differ. Before you launch, get a written opinion from a lawyer in your first target country.

Create your account, connect GoCardless and switch on pay later in your own checkout.
