Returns & dunningEarly access
SEPA debits can be returned — refunded at the shopper's request, refused or failed for lack of funds. Kalplex reads the reason and starts the right follow-up automatically.

| Reason code | Meaning | Kalplex follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| MD06 | Refund requested by the payer (within 8 weeks) | Reminder with a pay-by-link option; order flagged for review |
| AM04 | Insufficient funds | Retry option plus reminder with payment link |
| AC04 | Account closed | Ask for new bank details or another payment method |
| AC06 | Account blocked | Reminder with payment link; no automatic retry |
| MD01 | No valid mandate | Pause pay later for the customer and request a new mandate |
| MS02 | Refused by the payer | Reminder with payment link; customer marked for review |
Reason codes follow the ISO 20022 return codes used in SEPA. The exact code a bank sends can vary.
An email explaining the debit didn't go through, with a link to pay by bank transfer or card.
A follow-up a few days later with the outstanding amount and order reference.
A last reminder before you decide how to proceed, such as pausing pay later for the customer.
Unresolved cases are listed for you — to contact the customer or pass to your collections process.

Late-payment charges must stay limited and within what national law allows. Kalplex doesn't add fees to reminders by default — read the guardrails.
